The Texas Department of Transportation is holding a public meeting on Tuesday, June 11, from 5:30 – 7 p.m. at Taylor Creek Elementary School, located at 2096 Big Divide Rd. in Copperas Cove.
The meeting is to receive public comments on a future project that would bring a portion of U.S. 190 – namely, from the intersection of F.M. 2657 to the intersection of F.M. 2808 – up to interstate freeway standards.
TxDOT is looking for input on the proposed design alternatives along this stretch of highway.
The proposed design alternatives are a result input received from a public meeting held in June 2023.
Tuesday’s public meeting will present three project design alternatives for the public to view.
Two new designs would extend from approximately the intersection of F.M. 2808 to the Coryell County line/F.M. 2657 intersection, with one previous design alternative extending from approximately County Road (CR) 4804 to the Coryell County line.
The project involves dividing the highway with a 24-foot median and concrete barriers and installing one-way frontage roads on each side of the highway.
Also, overpasses would be constructed over the intersection of Big Divide Road and the intersection at Great Hills Drive.
The proposed project would require at least 40 acres of additional right of way (ROW) and potentially cause displacements, with the amount of required ROW being determined during the final design.
The estimated timetable for this project is as follows:
Estimated environmental clearance: spring 2025
Finalize schematic design: fall 2024
Right of way acquisition begins spring 2025
Construction contract awarded upon approval: To be determined
Construction duration: To be determined
Those who attend the meeting, whether in-person or virtual, will be able to view a presentation playing onscreen, and ask questions of TxDOT staff and/or consultants.
In-person attendees will be able to leave written comments and also review hard copies of project materials.
There is also a Virtual Open House scheduled for Tuesday, June 11 at noon, via the following website https://www.txdot.gov/projects/projects-studies/brownwood/us190-lampasas...
