Car strikes stopped fire truck on Highway 9

A 52-year-old Copperas Cove woman was cited for failure to control speed on Tuesday morning after the 2015 Ford Flex she was driving struck a stopped vehicle, and then a Copperas Cove fire truck on State Highway 9.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the woman was traveling westbound on SH 9 and approaching a line of vehicles that were stopped due to a crash.

“Emergency personnel were actively working a crash scene. The female failed to control speed and collided into the rear of a passenger vehicle that was stopped. The Ford continued across the center median and struck the fire truck that was on scene,” said Sgt. Bryan Washko, with Texas DPS.

Sgt. Washko said the fire truck had all emergency lights activated and was parked blocking the initial crash.

No EMS personnel were injured, no other injuries or property damage was reported. The female driver was not injured and was issued citation on scene for failure to control speed.

“Texas DPS would like to remind drivers to limit distractions while driving and to obey all traffic laws. Limiting distractions and focusing on the roadway greatly reduces the probability of being injured in a traffic crash.”

The crash investigation is still active and open, Sgt. Washko added.

The extent of any damage to Copperas Cove’s Engine One has not been made known, nor if the truck is out of commission until repairs are made, if any.
