Sacred relics exposition to visit Holy Family Catholic Church

More than 150 relics from early Christian church history will be in Copperas Cove on Monday, Dec. 12, when Companions of the Cross will have an exposition set up at the Holy Family Catholic Church hall.

Some of the relics are around 2,000 years old. According to the website, Treasures of the Church, relics are physical objects that have a direct association with a saint or with Jesus Christ. Relics can be an item a saint personally owned, or even a bone fragment of a saint, or an item that a saint has touched.

Among the relics are items associated with the 12 apostles, St. Paul, and early church leaders such as Augustine, Agnes of Rome, St. Francis of Assisi, Joan of Arc, and even Nicolaus of Myra, the original inspiration for the character of Santa Claus.

The exposition begins at 6:30,  p.m. with a brief introduction inside the church by Father Carlos Martins, who oversees the collection. Martins is the director of Detroit-based Treasures of the Church.

After that, the hall will be open for visitors to walk among the relics and observe them.
