Krist Kindl Markt kicks off Thursday in Copperas Cove

Copperas Cove’s City Park will be transformed beginning Thursday this week for the annual Krist Kindl Markt, held by the Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce.
The free festival begins on Thursday at 4 p.m. and closes at 10 p.m., opening again on Friday from 4-10 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m., then from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday. There is no admission or parking fee for the festival.
A lineup of arts and crafts vendors as well as food vendors will provide a chance for shoppers to eat and mingle, as they do some holiday shopping and enjoy live entertainment.
Held since 1995 in rain, shine, or even in freezing weather, the annual festival has seen its share of Texas’ weather mood swings. This year, the festival will be held outdoors in City Park amid light displays.
On the opening night of the festival, there will be a tree-lighting event at 7 p.m. with music and refreshments, and a special visit by Santa Claus. Santa will also make appearances throughout the weekend for photos.
New for this year is Krist Kindl Markt “Amateur Hours.” Can you sing, do stand-up, or even a magical act? If you’re 16 years of age or older, sign up for a spot to perform. The winner will get to perform at Rabbit Fest in May. Email Chamber@copperascove.com for details and to sign up.
A carnival will be on site, with wristbands available for $20 on Dec. 1-2, from 6-9 p.m. German Bingo will be held on Sunday, Dec. 4.
Music will be by local band “Warrnicorn.”
A highlight of the weekend returns with Copperas Cove’s lighted Christmas parade, set to begin at 7 p.m. and proceed down Avenue D. This year’s theme is Christmas Movies.
The chamber is still looking for parade participants, and those interested in signing up should do so at www.copperas.cove.com/krist-kindl-markt/. Lineup is a 4 p.m. Saturday, with judging at 5 p.m. prior to the parade’s start at 7 p.m.
