Tonight, the Dawgs take on the Knights for their senior night and last home game of the season. Last Friday night the Knights beat temple to take the number one spot in the division sitting at 7-1 (4-0 in district), while the Dawgs fell to Hutto and falling to last place in the division.
The Knights are led by Coach Jerry Edwards and are looking for another spectacular end to their season. Last year they finished at 9-2 (6-1 in district) being bi- district finalist.
Some key players to watch for are RB Re’Shaun Sanford, OL Jaydon Chatman, OL Etueni Ropati, DB Deaubry Hood, QB Dylan Plake, RB Aimeer Washington, K Jai’den Fletcher, OL Jaden Kaaloa, DL Christopher Robinson, LB Jeremy Jennings, DL Lamarion Hatcher, DL Jamorion Stanford, WR Alexander Bailey, WR Tj Johnson.
The Knights are led by Junior QB Plake who is 67-129 with 996-yards passing with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. He’s accompanied by Senior RB Sanford who has surpassed 1.000 yards rushing sitting at 1.519 yards rushing and nine touchdowns (2,330 yards last season with 27 touchdowns). The Knights evenly distribute the ball in their passing game as they have six receivers with more than 100 yards receiving. Johnson has 21 receptions for 275 yards with four touchdowns, Sanford has nine receptions for 109-yards, Bailey has eight receptions for 112 yards for one touchdown, Rocky Crooks has nine receptions for 100 yards with one touchdown, Kai McMillian has four receptions for 163 yards with one touchdown, and Washington has 13 receptions for 106 yards with one receiving touchdown as well.
In his first year as Head Coach for the Bulldawgs, Tony Johnson has already done something that hasn’t been done since 2019 and that is to win more than one game. In 2019 the Dawgs went 3-9, and since then they have been stuck with a single win for the past two years.
So far on the season Johnson has led the Dawgs to two wins. A lot of people can say they see a difference in coaching since he arrived. He will have his work cut out for him this week and if he can get the Dawgs to stop making simple mistakes then the Dawgs have a chance to come out with an upset not many people can see coming.
For the past three games, the Dawgs have gone with Micah Casone as their starting QB and it’s safe to say he will be taking the field for the Dawgs once again. Casone in his 3 games is sitting at 46-105 with 572 yards passing, seven touchdowns and two interceptions with one rushing touchdown.
Between star receivers Trishstin Glass and Demetrius Pearce, the Bulldawgs have some down field play makers. Pearce is the Dawgs’ leading receiver with 30 receptions for 514 yards and five touchdowns, while sophomore receiver Glass has 30 receptions for 439 yards and six touchdowns. Craig Brown is still staying in the game with his 133 rushing attempts for 718 yards and five rushing touchdowns.
Tonight is Senior Night at Bulldawg Stadium, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
