With the month of October being known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, there are two events dedicated to raising funds for Pink Warrior Angels, a 501c3 founded in 2015 by Copperas Cove resident Julie Moser.
In its seven years, Pink Warrior Angels has contributed $152,352 to cancer patients, with a total of 346 cancer “warriors” receiving aid, whether it be financial aid, or other type of support such as yard work, chemo care kits, and more. Its lineup of 128 volunteers put in 982 volunteer hours in 2021 alone. The organization also has a scholarship program to support cancer survivors and/or their immediate family members attending college.
On Saturday at HomeBase, there will be the 5th annual Pink Block Party, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. For a donation, shoppers can make a festival fall floral DIY project.
Along with the DIY make and take project, Pink Warrior Angels will have raffle tickets on sale for a number of raffle basket prizes. Shoppers at HomeBase will also have the option of rounding up their purchase, with the difference going to Pink Warrior Angels. The free event will include performances by the CCHS cheerleaders, the Copperettes, the CCJHS Starlettes and the S.C. Lee Junior High Cougarettes.
Then later on Saturday is the return of “Bras for a Cause” hosted by Moose Lodge 2029. This event starts at 5:30 p.m. with an Italian dinner for $7 per plate.
The highlight of the evening is entries on display for the bra decorating contest. Entries are welcome from now through the day of the event and should be a decorated bra with straps. Categories include most inspirational, people’s choice, most comical, judges’ choice, most creative, best craftsmanship, best seasonal/holiday theme. The bras will be auctioned off at 7:30 p.m. and certificates awarded to the winners. For more information on the contest and event, contact Dara Wydler at (254) 220-6623 or email wydlerd@yahoo.com.
Proceeds from the Moose Lodge’s event will go to Pink Warrior Angels as well. The lodge is located at 2828 S. F.M. 116.
Pink Warrior Angels was initially founded to support breast cancer patients fighting the disease, but then expanded to support those fighting all types of cancer. For more about how they help cancer survivors directly visit www.pwatx.org.
Pink Warrior Angels is also gearing up for its annual Runway of Hope, set for April 2023, with the models all being cancer survivors. The organization is also seeking volunteers to help plan and assist at future events.
