Gatesville holding festival for 41 consecutive years
By LYNETTE SOWELL
Despite cloudy skies and cooler temperatures, the crowds didn’t stay away from Spurfest, a one-day festival hosted by the Gatesville Chamber of Commerce. The day kicked off early with a 5K zombie obstacle course at 7 a.m. and by late afternoon, rain stayed away from the festival in Faunt Le- Roy Park. “I’ve been here since 6 a.m. and it was a little chilly,” said Michael Gohlke, chamber president. “So far it’s been going very well.” Those who came to the festival had the chance to sample fried catfish cooked up by the Knights of Columbus Council 6658 from Copperas Cove. The group’s volunteers fried the fish behind a wooden prep trailer where others served up plates of fish, fries and hush puppies to diners.
