Incumbents file for Copperas Cove city council positions

With filings now open for the Nov. 8 general election, two positions for the Copperas Cove city council already have candidates.
Shawn Alzona was the first candidate to file, and submitted his application on Monday. 
Alzona is the incumbent and currently occupies Place 3 on the Copperas Cove city council. The term for Place 3 expires in November. Alzona won the seat in a December 2021 runoff against Scott Remalia. The seat was vacated when Dan Yancey won his bid for the Mayor’s seat in November 2021.
In Place 5, incumbent Dianne Yoho Campbell filed on Tuesday to run for reelection. Campbell won the Place 5 seat in November 2019. 
As of press time Thursday, Alzona and Campbell have been the only two to file for office so far.
Place 4 is up for election. Current Place 4 councilmember Jay Manning is in his second full term in office, and is term limited and cannot run this time.
Applications for a place on the ballot will be accepted at the City Secretary’s office through August 22, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
