Lady Dawg softball in a tough spot
“Never, ever, ever give up!” - Winston Churchill during World War II
If I know anything at all about those young women who represent Copperas Cove on the diamond, that giving up part will not be an issue.
That being said, the Lady Dawgs will have to dig deeper than ever before to make their second-straight state playoff trip, since there’s only tonights game left on the District 12-6A regular season schedule.
And Cove will need to win both plus get some help.
Must-win game no.1 takes place tonight when the Lady Dawgs wrap up a four-game road trip at league-leading Harker Heights, an earlier 6-2 winner in Copperas Cove. Then, coming up Friday, Cove must get by Temple at Lady Dawg Field after stopping the Tem-Cats 9-5 in the district’s first round.
Where does the help come from?
Hopefully from Ellison which hosts Bryan tonight and from Heights when they travel south Friday.
That’s the way it shapes up..the Lady Dawgs must win two and Bryan has to drop a pair for Cove to keep playing.
Keep in mind this is not a lost cause, not by any means. If Cove plays up to its capabilities and I’m betting they will, since everyone on our team knows the score and what’s at stake.
But so do the other teams and this final week of district play could get mighty interesting.
Go Dawgs!
