A local auto detailing business has expanded into its second location, at the former Cove Feed and Seed building.
2020 Auto Spa, which has a location on Laura Street and now on Business 190, officially open for business at their second location on Monday, Feb. 28, at 2314 E. Business 190.
Owner Darnell Newman is an Army veteran, as are all of the other four employees who work at 2020 Auto Spa.
2020 Auto Spa is a specialty detail shop that strives to offer above and beyond what is expected at a detail shop.
“We try to we have a niche market,” Newman said.
2020 Auto Spa offers ceramic coating, paint protection film, window tint, paint chip repair and rock chip repair, as well as traditional detailing.
“We do anything from just regular basic vacuums and washes, stain removal,” Newman said. “We have extractors, steamers, pretty much anything that you could use.”
One thing that Newman says makes 2020 Auto Spa stand out is that each employee is licensed and certified. There are two technicians who have just finished attending school in Houston for this.
“For our ceramic coating school, I would probably say between us education wise, there's over 20 or 30 certifications,” Newman said. “We understand just something as simple as chemical breakdown, knowing what to use in your vehicle, understanding different aspects of that, actually how to properly remove stains without using too harsh or too light of chemicals, understanding the difference between cleaning and actually sterilizing a vehicle.”
Newman said that his team also knows how to repaint, how to fully remove scratches without having to cover them up, and how to preserve the paint job, whether it’s ceramic coating or a paint protection film.
“What our big focus is is just kind of bringing back a new style of pride cars, new pride in ownership and things like that,” Newman said. “Our name is 2020 Auto Spa, and our slogan is, ‘Changing the way you see auto detailing.’ A lot of times when we tell people we detail cars, they think we got soap in a bucket, and that's all we do- that's not even close to what we do. We provide a total experience.”
Newman started in the detailing business in 2017 working as an employee at another auto detailing shop. He branched off on his own and opened 2020 Auto Spa at 202 Laura St. in 2020. Two years later, he was able to expand, and he hopes to expand to a third location within another two years.
“One of the big things that I would say overall that I actually like about doing this is just you’re actually giving people like a standard,” Newman said. “You're actually raising the bar.”
Newman said that there have been people who say they have to go to Austin because “there are no good shops here” or all the high-end shops are there.
“We've worked on everything from McLarens, Ferraris, Porsches. I mean, we work on every kind of car,” Newman said. “It's not just high end. I can fix a Prius the same way I fixed the Lambo, it doesn't matter for me, but we're bringing back that even though we're a smaller city, we definitely have we have the same quality.”
The basic detailing price point starts at $150 and includes a basic hand wash and detail inside and out. The price increases from there depending on the job. The price is set per job and depends on the size of the vehicle or condition of the vehicle as well.
