The Copperas Cove basketball teams get a break from school over the holiday break, but not from competition as the Bulldawgs are currently competing in the 60th annual MT Rice Holiday Tournament in Waco while the Lady Dawgs are competing in the 20th annual Aggieland Invitational in Bryan/College Station.
As you read this article, both teams would have already competed in pool play to determine today’s bracket matchups.
The Bulldawgs join Waco schools, University and Waco High in Pool B while host Midway, Denison and Montgomery make up Pool A. Also competing in the tournament is Manor, Nacogdoches, and 12-6A rival Temple in Pool C; A&M Consolidated, Converse Judson, and Stony Point in Pool D; Grapevine, Lake Ridge, and 12-6A Shoemaker in Pool E; and 6A no. 14 Harker Heights with Hendrickson and Summit in Pool F.
The Bulldawgs played Waco at 11 a.m. before playing University in the 3:30 game (results not available as of press time Monday).
If Cove wins their pool, they will play the winner of Pool C at 1 p.m. today at Midway High School’s main gym. A second-place finish would match them up against the runners up from Pool C in an 11:30 a.m. contest at Midway’s auxiliary gym. A third-place finish would set up a 1 p.m. matchup with third from Pool C at Midway Middle School’s main gym.

The Bulldawgs (7-7 overall, 1-0 in District 12-6A) return to district action Tuesday at Bulldawg Gymnasium against the Ellison Eagles with a 7 p.m. scheduled tipoff.
The Lady Dawgs are competing with 31 other teams in the Aggieland Invitational, including 6A no. 18 Katy Seven Lakes and 5A no. 4 Pflugerville Hendrickson and no. 14 Barbers Hill and 12-6A rivals Ellison.
Cove opened tournament play with a game against Dickinson High School at A&M Consolidated High School’s court 1 at 11:30 a.m. yesterday. A win would have them facing off against the winner of hosts A&M Consolidated and Ridge Point High School last night at 7 p.m. where a loss would have them playing at 4 p.m. all at A&M Consolidated High School’s court 1.
The Lady Dawgs will continue action today with times and opponents to be determined by today’s action.
