Coryell County and the City of Copperas Cove each recognized the 11 principals that serve the students and staff of Copperas Cove Independent School District at Tuesday’s regular board of trustees meeting.
Coryell County Judge Roger Miller spoke briefly about the importance of school principals before reading aloud and presenting the county’s proclamation recognizing Texas School Principals Appreciation Month. Deputy Fire Chief Gary Young followed with a reading of the city’s proclamation, on behalf of Mayor Bradi Diaz.
The school principals include Jimmy Shuck at Copperas Cove High School; Pat Crawley at Crossroads High School; Jeff Shannon at Copperas Cove Junior High School; Brian Jost at S.C. Lee Junior High School; Jennifer Maples at Clements/Parsons Elementary School; Billie Diaz at Hettie Halstead Elementary School; Todd Williams at House Creek Elementary School; Rebekah Shuck at Fairview/Miss Jewell Elementary School; Earl Parcell at Martin Walker Elementary School; Lori Hensley at Williams/Ledger Elementary School; and Leah Miller at Mae Stevens Early Learning Academy.

The school board approved applying for a waiver for homebound instruction. According to the Attendance Accounting Handbook, the district can provide remote homebound instruction to an eligible student and “count the student in attendance for FSP funding purposes provided that all the requirements of the homebound program are met except for face-to-face instruction from the homebound teacher.”
The board also approved a Master Service Agreement with Renaissance Institute for Technology Support for a cost of $122,160.00. This Master Service Agreement would provide the district with industry standard expertise, CCISD specific consultation, and high-end technical support 24/7/365 days per year.
The board approved a proposal for Professional Services Agreement for the HVAC Replacement at Copperas Cove High School, Jewell Elementary School, Walker Elementary School, Child Nutrition Services, Maintenance Services and Copperas Cove Junior High School with O’Connell Robertson. Each unit being replaced is at least 20 years old, and this is part of the district’s cycle of replacing units.
The estimated cost for the replacements is $2,660,700.
The board met in executive session during their workshop meeting on Monday and took action on Tuesday, unanimously voting to request sanctions by the State Board for Educator Certification against two employees for abandonment of contract.
