Copperas Cove city council to look at contract for demolition of old City Hall, former Fire Station No. 2

The asbestos abatement and demolition of the former Copperas Cove City Hall and Fire Station No. 2 are on the agenda for Tuesday’s Copperas Cove city council meeting. 
The former city hall location at 914 S. Main St. has been vacant since 2012, due to building issues which rendered it unusable. Use of the property after demolition will be determined at a future agenda. 
The former Fire Station No. 2, located at 2401 F.M. 1113, likewise has been vacant since the new Fire Station No. 2 opened in 2017. Currently, it stores the Five Hills Scholarship Pageant’s float, with future use of the property likewise to be determined at a future agenda.
The city received a bid from Amerivet Enterprises, LLC, for $118,870, to remediate the asbestos at and demolish both properties. 
Also on the agenda is calling for a special election to fill the unexpired term for Place 3 on the city council, currently occupied by Dan Yancey, who has filed to run for mayor. 
The city council will also be taking on a vote for the Copperas Cove Economic Development Corporation’s fiscal year 2021-2022 budget. 
An interlocal agreement with the Copperas Cove Independent School District for providing police services for two officers, in the amount of $147,174, is also up for action during Tuesday’s meeting.
The meeting will start at 6 p.m., at the council chambers, located at 508 S. 2nd St. The meeting is open to the public. The public can also call to listen in on the meeting by calling (888) 475-4499 and use meeting ID 9866029818 and passcode 2545474221.

The public will be permitted to offer public comments telephonically as provided by the agenda and as permitted by the presiding officer during the meeting.  Written questions or comments may be submitted up to two hours before the meeting via email to Lisa Wilson, City Secretary at lwilson@copperascovetx.gov.  
During the workshop portion of the meeting which starts at 5 p.m., Employee Service Awards for August 2021 will be given to Giovanni Stanziale, Wastewater Operator, for 10 Years of Service; and to Honora Glass, Communications Operator, also for 10 Years of Service. There will also be a presentation given by representatives from the Texas Municipal Retirement System regarding options for retirement benefits for city employees.
