Copperas Cove city council to vote on notice of $9 million bond issuance

The Copperas Cove city council will take action on a resolution related to giving notice of intent to issue the city’s annual Certificates of Obligation bonds, totaling $9,605,000 for 2021. The principal and interest payments will be included in the upcoming fiscal year 2021-2022 budget. 
City Manager Ryan Haverlah will also provide the council with an update on transportation and roadway projects including the Business 190 sidewalks and medians, the future State Highway 9 ramps, the ongoing Pecan Cove Drive project and the status of the city’s KTMPO Transportation Projects during the report items portion of the meeting. He will also provide an update on the city’s Utilities Administration, the COVID-19 vaccine, as well as the Texas 87th Legislative Session and the city council dais. 
During the workshop meeting, the city will recognize two employees for their years of service. Public Works Assistant Director Christopher Altott is being recognized for 15 years of service, and Wastewater Chief Plant Operator James Malone is being recognized for 35 years of service. 
The council will hold a public hearing on an ordinance amending the Fiscal Year 2020-2021 budget during its regular meeting and begin discussion and direction on the proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2021-2022 during Tuesday’s workshop. 
The council will also take action on setting a date for the public hearing on the city’s proposed budget for the 2021-2022 fiscal year. The proposed hearing date is July 29. 
Also on the agenda is a resolution authorizing and supporting the city manager in the submission of a grant application to the U.S. Department of Justice, Officer of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) for the FY 2021 COPS Hiring Program (CHP). 
The CHP provides funds directly to law enforcement agencies to hire new or rehire additional career law enforcement officers, and to increase the community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts. 
The workshop meeting will begin at 5 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Technology Building at 508 S. 2nd Street, and the regular meeting will begin at 6 p.m. or 10 minutes after the workshop is finished.
