KWTX spotlights CCISD as Schools That Rule during spirit week

The lights of Bulldawg Stadium illuminated the morning sky as the KWTX News 10 morning show spotlighted Copperas Cove Independent School District as one of their Schools That Rule during Spirit Week. 

With their live broadcast set to go live at 5 a.m. the team of Taina Maya, Casey Wood and morning meteorologist Brady Taylor and crew began their preparation around 1 a.m. making the trek from Waco and remained energetic throughout the two-hour broadcast that featured interviews with students from high school level to the elementary level with faculty and coaches scattered between.  The Pride of Cove Band opened the morning show and all participants helped close the broadcast from the field of Bulldawg Stadium.

“This was an awesome turnout by the community,” said Maya. “It doesn’t even compare to any of the other turnouts this week. I knew that Copperas Cove was going to be phenomenal and never imagined this type of turnout. WE got our energy to continue the show from the crowd and band.”

Bulldawgs Athletic Director Jack Welch took the opportunity to spotlight each of the programs at Copperas Cove High School with Cari Lowery talking about the success the Lady Dawgs Volleyball team has had over the past 12 games. Members of the football teams, dance teams, cheerleading squads and Ellee Fox, a sixth-grader at Copperas Cove Junior High, each giving interviews representing Copperas Cove.

“It was pretty awesome to do an interview,” said Fox. “This was my first live shot and he (Casey Wood) made me feel comfortable talking about my golf game during the interview.”

Members of the Board of Trustees for CCISD shared some of their story during the morning show with Joan Manning, Dr. Karen Harrison, Mike Wilburn and Doug Cook each making an appearance. 

“Copperas Cove always over delivers. We are excited to have this opportunity to spotlight our school district,” Superintendent Joe Burns said. “We had the pre-K  out singing songs to the show their support for the district. We owe our staff a debt of gratitude, they put together an amazing job and our campus did an outstanding job providing students to ensure we had a great event. We have had a great week getting everyone back in the swing for school to start on Monday. This is our pre-pep rally pep rally.”

Monday the crew visited La Vega, Tuesday was a stop in Lorena, Wednesday was a stop in Salado and the crew hits the road again this morning wrapping up their weeklong spirit week show with a stop in Gatesville.

“I won’t be there in Gatesville, Dan (Ingham) will and I don’t think they can top Copperas Cove,” said Maya.
