Stoney Brook hosts annual celebration for residents and family.
By LYNETTE SOWELL
The big band sounds of songs like “In The Mood,” “We’ll Be Together Again” and “String of Pearlss” filled the community room at Stoney Brook Assisted Living Center on Saturday for its fourth annual Spirit of ‘45 celebration. The Swingtime Big Band performed a two-hour concert, attended by not just residents of the facility, but members of the community as well. Chairs were at a premium, and Stoney Brook employees helped serve refreshments to the residents who visited with friends and family. Those who attended had the opportunity to enjoy cheese, crackers and fruit as well as cake and refreshments. Abbie Gerig, along with her 15 month old son, Roman, attended the event along with her mother and boyfriend. “We came because my grandma lives here,” Gerig said. Roman sat with his grandmother and great-grandmother, listening to the music from another generation. Several couples took to the empty spaces in the hallway to get up and dance a few turns during the concert.
