Public hearing for tax rate increase entertaining

The first of two public hearings in front of the Copperas Cove City Council was uneventful, however the second hearing on the proposed property tax was quite entertaining as Al Castillo and Mark Payne both spoke against the tax rate hike. Moving directly from the city budget hearing to the initial hearing on the $0.79 tax rate per $100 assessed value of property. The effective rate for the city as set forth by the state is set at $0.7517 and the current rate sits at $0.7774.
