Bulldawg football is not in trouble

Oh, please...deliver me from the naysayers and negative thinkers I had to contend with over the weekend.

Yes, it was a rough night in the Dawg Pound last Friday with Cove suffering a 34-7 loss to Waxahachie in the season opener, but if you’re looking for sugar coating, it won’t be found here. One sportswriter I used to know would fill his Saturday game story with excuses as to why his team lost. Some of these truths I’ll tell you may sound like that, but make up your own mind.

Truth No. 1: Thanks to COVID-19, there wasn’t enough practice time to polish everything up, leaving a dull luster on things and that’s the truth.

Truth No.2:  Way too many penalties...refer to No. 1 and that’s the truth.

Truth No. 3:  No matter how the game was going, all night long, the Bulldawgs gave 100 percent on every snap, in all three phases of the game and that’s the truth.

Truth No. 4.  The Dawgs are not necessarily a young team, but they are inexperienced to a certain degree. They’ll pick up a lot of reps in the next two contests. Isn’t that why we play non-district ball games, after all? To me, that’s true for sure.

Truth No. 5: A shout out to the fans, who showed up in droves to back our team, like always, even when Copperas Cove went 0-10 in consecutive seasons of 1978-79. These Bulldawg Backers have always supported their kids and that’s the truth.

So, to those people who cornered me asking what was wrong, I say nothing. Rome wasn’t built in a day and football teams aren’t either.  Just come to the games and yell. That’s the thing to do.

And that’s the truth.

Go Dawgs!
