Copperas Cove city council to hold meeting on Tuesday

Purchase of body cameras for police department on the agenda

The purchase of body-worn camera systems along with the replacement of mobile in-car video and mobile data terminals for the Copperas Cove Police Department is being presented to the council on Tuesday at its regular meeting for approval.

The police department presently has mobile in-car video systems which are outdated and need replacing, as are the mobile data terminals presently used in vehicles. The purchase of the body-worn cameras and in-vehicle video are a combined $199,705 which will be funded as part of the 2020 annual debt issue for the city. The new mobile data terminals will cost $165,478, also part of the same annual funds.

The Fire Department is also seeking approval for a new purchase, that of a wildland brush truck, in the amount of $166,162.55, to replace a 2005 Ford F450.

A contract for The Narrows sidewalks project in the amount of $1,145,807 with Choice Builders, LLC is being presented to the council. The project will install sidewalks will put sidewalks, ADA ramps, driveways, railings, and signage on Mueller Street, Constitution Drive, Robert Griffin III Boulevard, Old Copperas Cove Road, and Charles Tillman Way. The project is being paid for with federal Transportation Alternative grant funding. 

The council will also be appointing members to the city’s Planning & Zoning Commission, Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful Commission, and the Charter Review Committee. 

Two reports will be given to the council, one from Daniel Hall, with the Boys & Girls Club, and one from City Manager Ryan Haverlah regarding the Utility Administration’s transition. 

The meeting starts at 6 p.m., and the council’s workshop meeting starts at 5 p.m., during which it will hear a presentation on the Hills of Cove Golf Course financial performance and enterprise fund establishment. Velia Key, the city’s director of financial services, will bring the presentation to the council. 

After that presentation, the council win till continue its budget discussions.

Public comments will be permitted by phone, and written questions or comments may be submitted up to two hours before the meeting via email to Lisa Wilson, City Secretary at lwilson@copperascovetx.gov. A recording of the telephonic meeting will be made and will be available to the public in accordance with the Texas Public Information Act upon written request. The city will also broadcast live on its YouTube Channel and on the local Spectrum channel. A limited number will be admitted to the city council chambers, located at 508 S. 2nd St.
