Copperas Cove coronavirus cases reach 23

A Copperas Cove man in his 50s is now in the hospital and is the most recent confirmed positive case of COVID-19 in Copperas Cove.

On Tuesday afternoon, Copperas Cove Deputy Fire Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator Gary Young issued a press release with the newest update regarding the virus within the city.

This makes the count within the city of Copperas Cove at 23. Of those 23, 13 cases are still active, with eight listed as recovered and two deceased.

Some of the active cases are more than four weeks old, such as a male and female, both in their 70s, who tested positive in early April. The two continue to be listed as active cases in isolation.

“Several questions have been shared with us about cases that are still listed from over a month ago as still in isolation. The recovery time from COVID-19 varies from person to person based upon numerous factors. Those persons are still being tracked and once their status changes it will be updated on our notice,” Young said.

Young also said that Coryell County is sending an update that shows two other Copperas Cove cases, these two cases are for persons who live outside of the city limits of Copperas Cove but have Copperas Cove mailing addresses. Those two cases were not included in the update issued by Young.

A mobile testing site will be held Thursday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Copperas Cove Fire Station #2, located at the corner of Grimes Crossing Road and F.M. 1113.

Reservation opens for the testing on Wednesday, and may be done at www.txcovidtest.org or by calling 512-883-2400. There is no cost for the testing, but a reservation for the test must be scheduled in advance. Those wishing to receive a test, whether they have symptoms of COVID-19, or are a first responder or essential worker, may be tested.

Those who make and receive an appointment for the Copperas Cove site will need to enter the testing site via the Grimes Crossing Road entrance to the station.
