CCISD board approves technology purchases, facility agreement with city

The Copperas Cove Independent School District board of trustees met briefly for their regular meeting Tuesday evening to approve several action items and a consent agenda which included the purchase of technology for Crossroads High School for more than $63,000.
The technology purchased, 120 notebooks for $63, 601.20, will help expand student access for students engaged in credit recovery and credit acceleration at Crossroads High School.
Also in the consent agenda were two out-of-state trips. The first was the Oklahoma Association Serving Impacted Schools (OASIS) for November 5-7, 2019 in Tulsa, where Superintendent Dr. Joe Burns and Board President Joan Manning will attend to hear legislative updates regarding Impact Aid by the Department of Education and the State Department. The total cost for the trip is $1,970.12. The second is the SNA Industry Conference on January 11-14, 2020 in Indian Wells, California, for CCISD Director of Child Nutrition Melissa Bryan to attend. As the president of the Texas Association of School Nutrition, Bryan is required to attend several national level conferences. This particular one will allow her to interact with industry leaders, other Child Nutrition Service leaders and customer experience experts. The total cost for the trip is $2,449.96, which will be reimbursed by TASN.
The board accepted a $600 donation from the Williams/Ledger PTO to go towards bus transportation for field trips at Williams/Ledger and a $500 visa gift card donation from Lifetouch to go towards CCHS to provide lunches for the Principal Leadership Advisory.
The board approved an interlocal agreement to share facilities with the city of Copperas Cove. The annual agreement permits both entities to share specified facilities laid out in the agreement, including the outdoor practice fields, tennis courts and up to five gymnasiums, not including the district’s competition gym, plus the use of a computer lab for adult and senior citizen instruction for up to 48 hours per year. The city lets the district use the Civic Center subject to standard policy and availability, the city’s two pools year-round, the Hills of Cove Golf Course and the city’s baseball fields. The agreement is the same as the one approved last year.
The board approved to accept the work by Honey’s Roofing LLC for the re-roofing at Copperas Cove High School and Crossroads High School and to authorize the final payment. The approved project budget was $710,359.74. The final payment due was $53,853.48. The final cost to the district for this project is $687,569.64, which was $22,690.10 under budget.
The board also took action to adopt the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Superintendent Evaluation Instrument. Following TEAM Building Training, board members noted their preference for an updated evaluation instrument that would “more accurately reflect the goals and performance criteria used to conduct the superintendent’s annual evaluation,” according to the Agenda Packet.
During the recognitions portion of the meeting, Burns announced that this week was HR Week in the state of Texas, and that this Wednesday was HR Day. Burns also read a proclamation from Governor Greg Abbott declaring October 2019 to be “National Principals’ Month”, after which Burns acknowledged each principal present at the meeting, introducing them so they could be applauded by the board and audience.
