City council Place 7 election race with two candidates, forum set for Wednesday

Filing for the Nov. 5 special election for Copperas Cove city council place 7 closed on Thursday at 5 p.m., and Copperas Cove Public Information Officer Kevin Keller confirmed that Theresa Deans and Jack Smith were the only citizens to file. 
Both Deans and Smith filed early in the time period which went from Sept. 3 through Sept. 26. 
On Friday morning, Deans and Smith drew for the order of the ballot at the City Secretary’s office, with Smith drawing #1 and Deans drawing #2. 
The two are vying for the position vacated with the resignation of Charlie Youngs, and the winner will fill the unexpired term which goes through November 2020. 
On Wednesday, there will be a candidate forum to hear from them along with the other eight candidates who are running for Copperas Cove city council places 3, 4, and 5, as well as two candidates running for CCISD board of trustees Place 5. 
The Copperas Chamber of Commerce is holding a meet and greet followed by a forum at the city council chambers, located at 508 S. 2nd St., starting at 5:30 p.m., with the formal forum beginning at 6 p.m. 
For Copperas Cove city council Place 3, incumbent Dan Yancey is being challenged for the position by Jayme Sigler and Dario Eubank. 
For Copperas Cove city council Place 4, incumbent Jay Manning is being challenged by Matthew Russell and Benjamin Beck. 
Dianne Campbell and Gary Kent are running for Place 5, currently occupied by Kirby Lack, who is term limited. 
In the CCISD board of trustees election, there is only one opposed race for three positions. 
Harry L. Bird and Jeff Gorres are running to fill Place 5, currently occupied by Bob Weiss.
Place 3 and Place 4 incumbents Mike Wilburn and Joan Manning are running unopposed. 
The last day to register to vote prior to the Tuesday, Nov. 5 general election is Monday, Oct. 7. 
Early voting starts Monday, Oct. 21 and continues through Friday, Nov. 2.
