On Monday morning, the two candidates running for the Copperas Cove Independent School District board of trustees drew for the order of their places on the ballot for the CCISD board of trustees Place 5 election.

Harry L. Byrd will be listed first on the ballot, with Jeff Gorres to be listed second.

Byrd and Gorres are running to fill the place currently occupied by Bob Weiss.

Gorres ran in the 2017 and 2018 elections for the board of trustees.

Byrd has previously served on the board before losing a four-way race in 2018 to retain the Place 5 seat. In the 2018 election, Shameria Davis bested Byrd, Gorres and Joseph Leary, winning 39.64 percent of the votes.

Unlike the City of Copperas Cove election, a simple majority will win the race for a CCISD board of trustees candidate.

Place 3 and 4 incumbents Mike Wilburn and Joan Manning submitted their applications on the first day of filing, and are unopposed for those races.

The last day to register to vote prior to the Tuesday, Nov. 5 general election is Monday, Oct. 7.

Early voting starts Monday, Oct. 21 and continues through Friday, Nov. 2.
