To commemorate the 125th year of publication of the Copperas Cove Leader-Press in 2019, every Friday the Leader-Press will share snippets from the community’s history over the past 60 years in From the Vault.
40 years ago, in the Copperas Cove Leader
The Copperas Cove J.L. Williams Junior High School Symphonic Band placed fourth in the Texas State Honor Band Competition held at San Antonio July 29-August 1.
This year, Copperas Cove High School will continue and expand upon the move to computerization that was first started last year. When students receive their class assignments at high school this fall, they will be receiving a schedule prepared by a computer at Central Texas College.
50 years ago, in the Copperas Cove Press
The Copperas Cove Athletic Boosters will meet on Tuesday nights from now on. An invitation to mothers who would like to join the club has been issued. Membership in the club is $3 for each person per year, or $5 per family.
60 years ago, in the Copperas Cove Courier
Supt. J.L. Williams announced the addition of a new first grade teacher, Mrs. Davis from Llano. The school now has a total of 36 teachers and three administrators to begin the fall term. The elementary has 19 teachers for the first six grades. At the junior high level, 5th and 6th grades, there are five teachers, and at senior high, there will be 12 teachers.
