The Copperas Cove High School class of 1969 is holding its 50th reunion on Saturday, July 20, starting at 6 p.m., at the Copperas Cove Moose Lodge, located at 2828 S. F.M. 116.
The event will bring together the alumni and also serves a fundraiser for four-year-old-Cord Fidler, the grandson of Bob and Sherry Gray, who graduated with the class of ’69.
All Copperas Cove alumni from the 1960s to 1980s are invited to attend, bring a potluck dish, along with an item of the silent auction. The cost is $10.
As of press time on Monday, event organizers were still searching for a DJ to play music at Saturday night’s event.
On Saturday evening, there will also be silent auction items and gift baskets up for bid, with proceeds going to help young Cord.
Cord has traveled a long road in his recovery from gunshot wounds he received during a December 2018 shooting, when his mother, Shelly Splittergerber, and grandmother, Sherry Gray, were shot and killed by Splittergerber’s estranged husband.
After a prolonged hospital stay and multiple surgeries, Cord went home from the hospital in June, with a feeding tube and colostomy, and still faces physical and occupational therapy as he continues to progress.
