Relay for Life set for Saturday

The Lampasas/Copperas Cove Relay for Life is hoping to beat their goal of $35,000 this year.
The Relay for Life is set for Saturday, May 4, beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at midnight, at S.C. Lee Junior High’s Hanke Stadium, at 1205 Courtney Lane. The event is open to the public. .
This year’s theme is “May the Cure Be with You”, a nod to May the 4th.
As of Sunday, all 19 teams participating have raised $32,231.47, which will go to the American Cancer Society. The different teams have been raising funds all spring, and totals will be tallied, and results will be announced at the Relay Saturday night.
Saturday’s Relay will feature games and raffles and performances from line-dance group The Posse, Refit and Cardio Drumming by the Healthy Hub.
There will be a Survivor’s Brunch at 11 a.m. There will also be Survivor and Caregiver laps at 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. and Colors of Courage laps for all teams, in between themed laps. Themes include Twins, 3-Legged Race, Star Wars, Choose Your Decade, Sweetheart, Tutus and Boas, Patriotic, Dude Looks Like a Lady, Glow in the Dark, Stay Awake PJ and the final Clean Up lap.
Participants will also have the chance to play games such as Hungry, Hungry Human; Conga; Frozen T-Shirt; Limbo and Cheeto Head.
At 6 p.m., there will be a Crowns for a Cure relay pageant. It will be $10 to enter, with sign up at the Pink Warrior Angels tent. Winners will be crowned in three categories: 0-11 years, 13-18 years, and 19 years and up.
A key part of the event includes the luminarias ceremony and lap, to be held at 9 p.m. in memory of those who have passed away from cancer and to honor cancer survivors.
The 19 teams are the Copperas Cove Event Lead Team, Banking on a Cure (Extraco), Paws for a Cause, Five Hills 4H, Cancer Crushers, the Pride of Cove Band and Color Guard, Avengers 4 Awareness, Star Group- Veterans Helping Veterans, CCJHS- No One Fights Alone, Pink Warrior Angels of Texas In Honor of Marily Considine, Bible Way Missionary Baptist Church, Martin Walker, The OWLS, Team Blessed, the Gladers, Team Sparkles, the Healthy Hub, Cancer Angels and Bark for Life.
