Shanahan qualifies for state powerlifting meet

BURLESON – The Copperas Cove Boys’ Powerlifting team competed at the Region II, Division I Powerlifting meet in Burleson on Saturday.

Tyler Morrow (114-pound classification), Zachary Hoyle (242-pound classification) and Aaron Shanahan (Super Heavy-Weight classification) represented the Bulldawgs at the meet with Shanahan punching his ticket to the State Powerlifting meet in Abilene on March 23.

He finished second with a total of 1,615 pounds to qualify behind Jordan Hood of Elgin with 1,715 pounds. Shanahan cleared 650 in the squat, 360 in the bench press and 605 in the dead lift.

Also qualifying in the SHW division were Tyler Noles of Georgetown (1,600 pounds) and Shaylon Roberts of Pflugerville Hendrickson (1,600 pounds).

Hoyle finished in sixth place with 1,340 pounds (460 squat, 350 bench press and 530 dead lift). Blake Edgington of Joshua took the top spot in the division with 1,625 pounds and Jordan Hammonds of Kyle Lehman earned the two qualifying spots in the 242-pound division.
