Husband-wife photography duo show work

Sabine and Bruce Jefferson share a love for nature as well as photography that is now on display at Frames & Things in Cove Terrace Shopping Center. 
On Friday evening the couple’s work was highlighted during the shop’s monthly First Friday Art After Dark, and their work will be on display and for sale throughout the month of November. 
Sabine is a native of Berlin, Germany and first found her inspiration for art by taking long walks in her city and out in nature, she said. 
Her portion of the show includes portraits of family members, but also large prints on canvas of dramatic landscapes, whether it be Caddo Lake in East Texas, the shores of the Gulf of Mexico or the Pacific Ocean, the buttes of Arizona, or an Arkansas lake. 
 “I like to work with the colors…there’s so much color. Even in our lives, a lot of times life is dull and we just need to put some color in there,” said Sabine. “Sometimes it takes me a long time. Again, it’s one thing to take the picture. It doesn’t look this way. It’s just what I see within; myself, I put my feelings into it.” 
Matted prints of Sabine’s work start at $25, with the largest canvas prints at 30” by 40” going for $175.
Bruce has enjoyed photography as a hobby, for more than 40 years, and his portion of the show includes both black-and-white and color photography of Crescent City, California, as well as Galveston, Arizona, Monument Valley, and Big Bend National Park. 
Bruce is donating the proceeds from his photography sales this month to Toys For Tots. 
“It had an impact on me when I was a child…I’m 60 years old and I still feel the impact. It made a difference to me,” Bruce said. 
Although he considers his photography a hobby, he will occasionally submit his work to be included in art shows and events like First Friday. Bruce is a veteran and has worked as a civilian contractor for and will be retiring soon, when he will look forward to continuing to travel with Sabine and capture images. 
“You can play a lot with the images. It’s just enjoyable,” he said.

“I like scenery, but capturing moments is more inspirational to me,” Bruce said. “I really feel like the mountains are beautiful, but you can make odd moments interesting. At one time, that building may have been a church or a school. If you see the outside of the building you may recognize it, because it’s well known and photographed. But I wanted to go inside and see it.”
Bruce’s 8” by 10” matted prints start at $25, with larger 13” by 19” matted and framed prints selling for $85.
There is one more First Friday Art After Dark for 2018, set for Friday, Dec. 7 and features an open call for photography, for which submissions are still being accepted. 
The monthly events featuring artists, live music, writers, along with snacks and wine have continued at Frames & Things even with the changeover in store ownership, with Joe and Debra Friddle buying the store earlier in the year from longtime owner, Robert Weidinger II. 
Joe Friddle said they are now in the process of preparing their lineup of artists, authors, and musicians for the 2019 calendar year. The Friddles are also gearing up for an open house on Friday, Nov. 30.
