Cove Girls 9th, boys 14th at Battlin’ Badger XC meet

With the District 12-6A Cross Country meet less than a week away, the Copperas Cove cross country teams got in one final practice meet before trying to punch their ticket for the Region II-6A meet to be held Monday, Oct. 22 at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie.
The girls’ team finished ninth overall with 242 total points. Junior Madisen ‘MJ” Honea finished in her usual Top 10 spot with a team-best 6th-place finish. She finished with a time of 20 minutes, 0.90 seconds to finish nearly two seconds faster than the only other 12-6A runner in the field, Anna Garner of Waco High (2:02.40). Junior Gracie Hall of Cedar Park won the meet with a time of 19:06.30. District rivals Belton finished with eight runners in the Top 35 for the district’s best finish at 4th with 101 points.
Sophomore Jalyn Ayala finished 48th overall and second for the Lady Dawgs with a time of 22:32.20 while senior Juyah Robinson was the third finisher and 64th overall for Cove with a time of 23:35.10.
Also competing for the Lady Dawgs were Emily Armstrong (24:24.70), Micah Sedillo (24:47.40), Tristan Carel (25:14.20), Destine Spruill (25:30.50), Danielle Diaz (25:43.60) and Mikayla Devins (26:30.80).
Jordan Bean took the top time for the Cove boys with a 47th-place finish and time of 18:28.00. Ahmad Pierce finished 75th with a time of 19:21.40 and Romeo Anthony closed out the Cove Top 3 with a 91st finish and time of 19:40.80.
Also competing for the Bulldawgs were Isaiah Sobers (20:51.80), Joshua Guerriero (20:51.90) and Damon Hewing (21:08.71).
Belton finished third overall with 118 points and the Harker Heights Knights finished fourth with 146 points.
