Four file for council, mayoral election

Filing for the Copperas Cove city council election is currently open through Monday, August 20, and as of the close of business Tuesday, four candidates have filed for a place on the November 6 sballot with the Copperas Cove city secretary’s office.
Cheryl Meredith has filed to run for place 1, presently held by David Morris. Meredith previously served two terms on the council prior to being term limited in 2015.
For place 2, incumbent James Pierce Jr. has filed to run for a second three-year term.
There is presently one opposed race for the November 6 election, with Joey Acfalle filing to run against Frank Seffrood for mayor, who filed to run for a second term.
The candidate filing period officially opened Monday for Copperas Cove city council elections.
Candidate filings will be accepted through August 20 with a drawing for places on the ballot by opposing candidates to be held on Aug. 23.
There is no cost to file to run for office, but there are forms which must be completed and submitted to the city secretary’s office.
Candidate application packets are available at the city secretary’s office, located at 914 S. Main St. Ste. C. Packets are also available online at the city secretary’s page on the city website, www.copperascovetx.gov/city_secretary and then under “Election Filing Information.”
Applications may be filed at the city secretary’s office Monday through Friday during regular business hours, or mailed to the office by following the instructions in the packet.
