The Bulldawgs had their second close call in the Austin area when they lost to Cedar Park Vista Ridge in the semifinals of the Westlake State Qualifying tournament held Friday at Westlake High School.
The Dawgs opened up the competition with a solid 46-24 win over Austin Anderson in game one of Pool B action and kept their qualifying hopes alive with a close 29-22 win over Cedar Park in game two.
The Dawgs lost to Alamo Heights 41-19 in game three but earned a spot to the semifinals due to Alamo Heights previously qualifying for the state tournament at the River City SQT in San Antonio on June 9.
The Dawgs then came up one score short in their 30-25 loss to Vista Ridge in the semis. Vista Ridge advanced from Pool A with Round Rock, Del Valle and the previously qualified Westlake.
The Bulldawgs returned to action last night in the Copperas Cove Passing League weekly tournament held at Cameron High School (results not available at press time).
The Dawgs had appeared to qualify for the semifinals of the Lake Travis SQT on May 19 but after the hour lunch break, their names were replaced with Marble Falls in the semis after another tie-breaker scenario bumped them from the semifinal bracket. Marble Falls then lost to Belton who qualified for the state tournament.
The Dawgs have one last opportunity to qualify for the Texas State 7on7 Tournament when they travel to the greater Dallas area for the Rowlett SQT on Friday, June 22 beginning at 9 a.m.
The Dawgs will conclude the four-week Copperas Cove Passing League at Temple on June 25 with a 5:30 p.m. start time.
