Get ready for Dave Campbell’s Texas Football

In his book Instant Replay, Green Bay Packer offensive lineman (and finally soon-to-be NFL Hall of Fame member) Jerry Kramer offered a comment which rings true in every walk of life.
Jerry said “The sun doesn’t shine on one dog’s rear end every day.” Well, the rays are sparkling now when it comes to a pair of ex-Bulldawgs in the pro ranks, one who’s already there and another just starting up that road.
Anyone who ever saw Jaylen Smith toe the rubber and work his southpaw magic from the stretch (never saw him wind up) knew he was a great one, just like the coaches at San Jacinto College, who asked him to come throw strikes and get batters out for them, did.
Then, last week, a life-changing event occurred.
Jaylen’s phone rang and it was the Philadelphia Phillies on the line, advising this recent CCHS grad they had drafted him in the 29th round.  Now, he can play the game he loves and get paid for it until age catches up.  All the best, Jaylen.
Another Bulldawg Ex already knows how the pro game works, since he’s part of America’s Team.  
The Copperas Cove sun is shining on Duke Thomas, known in these parts as Orlando, who’s coming home on Saturday, June 30 to host the Duke Thomas Football Camp for kids entering grades 1-9 and it’s free.  Yes, I know there’s a lot of Cowboy haters who’ll say “big deal.”
