Get ready for Dave Campbell’s Texas Football

Where are you, Dave Campbell, you and your annual summer Texas Football magazine?
Say what? Keep my shirt on until the last week of June?  I’ll try, but when a fan is waiting for the Bible of our national sport so they can see what you’ve got to say about District 12-6A and how it will look with the return of past rivals Waco and Temple, patience comes at a premium.
It’s been that way since I bought my first copy in 1961 with Baylor fullback Ronnie Bull on the cover.  Down through the years, I wish I’d kept the 1972 issue with former Temple great Brad Dusek, who went on to play for the hated Washington Redskins and in 1985, there was former Wildcat and TCU grad Kenneth Davis, soon to be a Buffalo Bill.  Copperas Cove even had a cover kid. On the 2012 winter issue, there was that big smile that could only come from Robert Griffin III.
Let’s not forget the summer 2007 edition either, that had Cove picked preseason No. 1 in Class 4A.
However, Dave’s outfit hasn’t been kind lately, picking the Dawgs to finish out of the playoffs last season, but by sheer grit, they managed another postseason trip, No. 18 of the last 20 tries.
But, that’s the past and Bulldawg fans have a whole new road to travel with their heroes, guided by new head coach Jack Alvarez and his philosophies, which I expect to be the medicine Bulldawg football needs.
Dave will tell us his take in three weeks.
Go Dawgs!
