Lady Dawgs open playoffs tonight against No. 7 Duncanville

The Copperas Cove Lady Dawgs’ softball team has a tough task ahead of them when they open the playoffs against the 7-6A District Champion no. 7-ranked Duncanville Lady Panthers (20-1-1, 14-0 in district action.
Duncanville’s only loss of the season came in a 2-0 contest against Peaster in the second game of the season. The Lady Panthers have since reeled off 19-straight wins including 14-consecutive to win the district. The Lady Panthers have won five of their last six by double-digits, including the 13-2 win over Bishop Lynch, and three of the last five were shutouts.
Duncanville pitcher Saleen Donohoe has averaged 10 strikeouts over those final five games. She also leads the Lady Panthers at the plate. She has 18 hits and 17 RBIs in 14 district games.
The Lady Panthers have outscored their District 7-6A counterparts 132-20, including six shutouts in the 14 contests.
The best-of three series begins tonight with game one slated for 7 p.m. at Hillsboro High School with game two set for noon Saturday with game three to follow 30 minutes after (if necessary).
The Lady Dawgs finished fourth in District 8-6A with an 8-6 record.
Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults. Copperas Cove is the home team in tonight’s game one and Duncanville will be home in tomorrow’s game three.
The winner will face the winner of the matchup between District 6-6A runners up Denton Guyer and the third-place team from District 5-6A Lewisville Hebron.
