The story of the 1999 murder of Raymond “Red” Litchfield of Copperas Cove and the subsequent investigation and 2016 trial of his wife, Margaret, is the subject of Sunday night’s episode of the TV series Snapped, on the Oxygen Channel.
The show will air on Sunday, April 1, at 5:00 and 7 p.m. Central Time, and on Monday, April 2, at 12 a.m.
Last spring, FlashRock Films producer Alex Flaster took note of the case and murder trial, and he along with a film crew visited Copperas Cove, interviewing those associated with the case.
FlashRock has created and produced series for networks such as Discovery Channel, A&E, National Geographic Channel, History, MSNBC, TruTV, the Weather Channel, Food Network, and PBS.
The Cove Leader-Press publisher, managing editor and staff also provided information and background for the story, including the media coverage by the Leader-Press at the time of the murder and also its coverage during Margaret Litchfield’s trial and subsequent conviction and sentencing.
Raymond Litchfield was found shot to death in his home, just outside Copperas Cove. The case went cold and remained so until 2014, when Coryell County District Attorney Dusty Boyd, who also is interviewed on the Snapped episode, agreed to reopen the case.
It took until April 2015 for Boyd to make an arrest, when Margaret was charged with her husband’s murder. She was convicted by a Coryell County jury in October 2016, and in November 2016 she was sentenced to 60 years in prison.
In November 2017, a Texarkana judge in the 6th Court of Appeals judge reviewed the case against Litchfield and issued an affirmation, upholding Margaret’s conviction.
