Special to Leader-Press
Six Copperas Cove Five Hills titleholders have been nominated for the 2018 Central Texas Incredible Kid Award. The Central Texas Youth Coalition will host the Eighteenth Annual Incredible Kid Celebration highlighting students who demonstrate admirable character traits in their service to their communities.
The following royalty are nominated for their community service projects and hundreds of hours of service to the area.
Copperas Cove Five Hills Junior Ambassador Kaydence Roberts has volunteered nearly 1,000 hours in the last 20 months heading up multiple community service projects including the Howl-O-Ween Puppy Pawlooza the last two years and supply drives for military canines deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq. She also set up a “blessing box” on Ave. D that provides dog and cat food for pet owners in-need.
Copperas Cove Little Miss Five Hills Kadence Coombs has volunteered more than 250 hours with her community service platform, Bling for Bravery, collecting award medals for the Snow Drop Foundation. Taking her project statewide, she has collected more than 500 medals that will be given to kids battling cancer at the Texas Children’s Hospital to encourage them to continue fighting and finish the race.
Copperas Cove Junior Miss Five Hills Leslie Lindholm has volunteered more than 250 hours with her community project, Leslie’s Free Little Libraries. In partnership with CCISD, Lindholm and the royalty refurbished 12 newspaper vending machines, filled them with books, and placed them outside every CCISD pre-K, elementary, and junior high school and both city swimming pools. Lindholm refills bins every month with age-appropriate books that she continually collects.
Copperas Cove Preteen Miss Five Hills Emily Kimball has volunteered nearly 500 hours in the last 10 months working to help animals in need. Co-chairing the Howl-O-Ween Puppy Pawlooza with Roberts this year, Kimball also established a pet supply source at My Brother’s House, the food pantry of Holy Family Catholic Church and conducted a collection drive.
Copperas Cove Young Miss Five Hills Hayleigh Walker has accrued 235 hours volunteering with her platform, Youth Suicide Awareness and Prevention. Walker partnered with CCHS DECA to host Cove’s first teen suicide prevention walk drawing an estimated crowd of 300 people.
Copperas Cove Teen Miss Five Hills Kendra Hicks has accumulated nearly 200 hours working to meet the needs of homeless teenagers. Hicks collected, cleaned and distributed more than 800 pounds of clothing, shoes, and coats to students through Communities in Schools and through the Copperas Cove Optimist Club.
