Primary election day today

A total of 3,361 voters cast their votes during early voting for the Republican and Democratic primary elections in Coryell County ahead of today’s primary. 
The city of Gatesville’s polling location saw 1,007 more voters than the location in Copperas Cove, with 1,916 voters casting votes in Gatesville and 909 voting in Copperas Cove. A total of 539 mail-in ballots were submitted. 
Polls are open today from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Copperas Cove Civic Center, 1206 W Ave B; Holy Family Catholic Church, 1001 Georgetown Rd.; Eastside Baptist Church, 1202 ML King Jr. Blvd; Gatesville Civic Center, 303 Veterans Memorial Loop; Evant City Hall, 598 E. Hwy. 84; Flat Community Center, 159 C.R. 334; Oglesby Community Center, 118 Main St.; Turnersville Community Center, 8115 F.M. 182. 
Coryell County registered voters may vote at any location in Coryell County. 
A number of local races will be decided today, to include several uncontested races in Coryell County. Those races with more than two candidates will likely head to a runoff election on May 22. 
The race for the office of county judge has a total of six candidates, to include Alan Mathis, Wayne Avery, Bob Harrell, Janice Gray, John Derrick, and Roger Miller. 
Another large race is that for the office of Coryell County District Clerk, with a four-way race between Joey Acfalle, Kelly Caldwell Bragewitz, Becky Moore, and Jeremy Pruitt. 
There are three candidates for County treasurer, to include Cindy Hitt, Misti Maxwell Morra, and Randi McFarlin.
Justice of the Peace precinct 3 candidates include Doran Belknap Jr., Gary Stiles, and Jim Caldwell.
Daren Moore, longtime county commissioner for precinct 2, is being challenged by Scott Weddle.
County commissioner for precinct 4, Ray Ashby is being challenged by Keith Taylor of Jonesboro.
County unopposed incumbents include: County court-at-law judge, John Lee; Justice of the Peace Precinct 1, John B. Guinn; Justice of the Peace Precinct 2, F.W. (Bill) Price; Justice of the Peace precinct 4, Coy Latham; County Clerk, Barbara Simpson.
