Central Texas College to host veterans’ expo this Tuesday
Special to Leader-Press
Central Texas College (CTC) will host a Veterans’ Benefits expo on Tuesday, March 6 in the Anderson Campus Center (Bldg. 156) on the central campus in Killeen.
The expo is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Hosted by the CTC VetSuccess Center and Veterans Services department, the expo serves as an outlet for military veterans and family members to meet representatives from numerous organizations and obtain information on how to make the best use of veterans’ benefits.
Nearly 30 organizations serving military veterans will be on hand to provide information on education benefits, health care services, disability compensation and employment services.
Other resources and material available at the expo include information on home and land loans, counseling services and legal services.
“The goal of the Veterans’ Expo is to help our military veterans receive the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding their benefits,” said Bruce Vasbinder, CTC public relations coordinator. “We also want to ensure they understand how to apply and gain the maximum assistance from these benefits.”
The CTC VetSuccess Center has two counselors to assist with VA education benefits including the Montgomery G.I. Bill (Chapter 30), Post 9/11 G.I Bill (Chapter 33) and other VA and non-VA educational benefits. The counselors can also assist veterans in applying for and maximizing VA education benefits.
In addition, the CTC counselors offer other assistance such as applying for vocational rehabilitation and employment (Chapter 31) services, transition support services, vocational exploration, career counseling, information on college credit for military experience and training and job placement assistance.
Some of the participating organizations include Texas Veterans Commission Employment Services for Veterans, Operation Phantom Support, Inc., Department of VA VetCenter, Department of Veterans Affairs, AW2 Wounded Warriors-Fort Hood, Texas Veterans Commission Claims Representation, Texas Veterans Commission-Family Career Advisor and Star Group, Veterans Helping Veterans, Bell County Veterans Services and Lonestar Legal.
Veterans attending the CTC expo should bring their DD Form 214 (DD214), VA healthcare ID card and any recent VA disability correspondence. For more information, contact the CTC VetSuccess Center at 254-501-3094.
