When every contestant age nine and up steps onto the stage in front of the judges at this year’s Five Hills Scholarship Pageant, she will know she’s looking her best with some help from Supercuts.
For the 2018 Five Hills Scholarship Pageant, Supercuts is providing styling services on the day of the pageant for all contestants nine and older.
Maryanne Crago, area manager for Supercuts, said a total of eight stylists will be stepping up to work on contestants’ and reigning royalty’s hair starting 9 a.m. the day of the pageant.
“We will have eight two stylists from stores, to include our two in Killeen, Belton, Temple, and Georgetown,” said Crago. “We styled the contestants the first year (the pageant restarted).”
Pageant director Wendy Sledd said for 2018, Supercuts approached the pageant about being the official stylist for the pageant’s fifth year since its reboot in 2014.
“It’s always gratifying when a sponsor returns, because that means they continue to believe in our program,” Sledd said. “Although we’re not a beauty pageant, every contestant wants to feel confident on stage, and their support helps our contestants to do that.”
As each contestant age nine or older registers, they should call Supercuts to book their appointment for March 24, the day of the pageant.
“All appointments will be scheduled on a first-come, first served basis, and it is up to each contestant – or their parent – to schedule that appointment upon registering for the pageant,” Sledd added.
In addition to the older contestants receiving the free hair styling for the pageant, contestants nine and up will be able to attend a lip color matching workshop hosted by Lips For Life by Becci.
All contestants will receive at least $200 in prizes simply for registering, such as certificates to local restaurants and salons, a week’s membership at Anytime Fitness, gymnastic, dance and taekwondo lessons and more.
This year’s pageant, presented by Manning Homes and also sponsored by VFW Post #8677, is set for Saturday, March 24, with the theme “Big Dreams Under the Big Top.”
The pageant will take place at the Copperas Cove Civic Center and is open to boys ages 0-8 and girls and women of all ages with registration going on until March 1 at http://www.copperascovetx.gov/parks/five_hills_pageant/.  Applications may also be picked up at the Copperas Cove Civic Center or access applications via the Five Hills Pageant Facebook page.
A coronation ball will follow the evening pageant, with catering by Bits n Bites Cake Shop, Copperas Cove HEB Plus!, and Starbucks.
In 2017, the pageant awarded more than $74,000 in scholarships and prizes to contestants and winners. W. B. Development returns as the sponsor of the educational savings bonds for the winners of the younger royalty in the Baby Miss through the Pre-Teen categories while Extraco Banks is providing the scholarships for the Young Miss and the Teen Miss winners.
