Dawg athletes parade for United Way Olympics
You’ve got to hand it to the honchos who run the Greater Fort Hood Area United Way.
Each year, they work their magic to raise money for various agencies around the neighborhood, who might not be able to do their jobs without the help United Way offers. And at campaign’s end, the UW Board of Directors throw a huge celebratory luncheon to honor their workers and especially the contributors.
Thursday, Feb. 8 was no exception and our Copperas Cove High School athletes were front and center at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center event.
With an Olympic theme, a history of Olympian events was read, woven with explanations of how they tied in with United Way ideals and goals and with each segment, here came the Dawgs.
Once again, the Lady Dawg district champion volleyball team came out and so did the AquaDawgs’ swim squad. We also saw a combined appearance of Cove’s basketball units, including the playoff-bound Lady Dawgs, who by the way, open their postseason run tonight. Baseball, softball, soccer, tennis, golf and the Bulldawg Battalion Jr. ROTC rifle team all appeared to illustrate the United Way mission and the Olympic spirit.
Another shout out goes to Williams-Ledger Elementary, which raised $101 per employee for the biggest per capita donation of all.
So, let’s raise the Cup for a toast to all Bulldawgs who had a hand in this effort.
They’re all champions of the community!
Go Dawgs!
