Interviews were conducted this week for a new city manager for Sealy, Texas, but the job won’t go to Copperas Cove’s current city manager, Andrea Gardner.
The City of Sealy was informed on January 4 by Kristin Navarro with Strategic Government Resources, the firm conducting the search, that Gardner had withdrawn her name from consideration, confirmed Warren Escovy, interim city manager/planning director for the City of Sealy.
Gardner, along with Stephen Ashley, former city manager of Spring Valley Village, Texas; Debi Lee, manager for the village of Ruidoso, New Mexico; and Lloyd Merrell, former city manager of Madisonville, Ky. were announced in December as the top four finalists for the job, having been selected from 33 applicants from nine states after a nationwide search by SGR.
As of press time, an announcement had not been made by Sealy who landed the position.
Gardner has been with the City of Copperas Cove since 2004 and has been city manager since 2007.
In October 2016, Gardner was of three finalists for the city manager position in Palestine, Texas, but also withdrew herself from consideration. Prior to that, in November 2014, Gardner was one of five finalists for the city manager of Kyle, Texas.
