While most folks are home enjoying their holiday break, the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs and Lady Bulldawgs are hard at work in their respective holiday tournaments.
The Lady Dawgs had a tumultuous day one of the 2017 Aggieland Invitational in Bryan/College Station.
Cove started the tournament strong with a dominant 59-29 win over Victoria East in the opening contest at 9 a.m. on Thursday.
The No. 7 Lady Dawgs then lost to unranked Wylie East in the second round Thursday night to fall to the Silver bracket where they faced hometown team Bryan Rudder for a chance at the Silver bracket semifinals.
Cove got back in the win column with a 57-50 win over Rudder Friday morning despite falling behind early 15-11 after eight minutes of action.
The Lady Dawgs then exploded on a 12-2 run on their way to a 29-22 halftime lead.
The Lady Dawgs pushed their lead to 10, 44-34, by the end of the third quarter before holding on for the seven-point win.
Cove then faced Seven Lakes in a 5 p.m. contest fort a chance to earn a spot in the Silver bracket championship on Saturday morning (results not available as of press time).
With a win, the Lady Dawgs would face one of two hometown teams in College Station or Bryan in the title game at 11 a.m. Saturday (results not available as of press time).
The Cove Bulldawgs ran their record to 18-1, 1-0 with a 97-69 win over Corpus Christi Moody to open the Mike Smith Classic tournament Thursday afternoon in Victoria.
The Dawgs then faced Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial and won in a low-scoring affair 50-35.
The Dawgs then improved to 20-1 on the year with a 75-56 win over Victoria West in a 10 a.m. skirmish.
