The Copperas Cove Bulldawgs basketball team (15-1) looks to continue their win streak tonight when they open up District 8-6A play against San Angelo Central (5-9) tonight at Bulldawg Gymnasium.
The Dawgs are coming off consecutive tournament wins and haven’t lost since November 21 at Pflugerville High.
The Dawgs scored under 50 for the only time all season in the loss. Since then, they’ve reeled off 11 straight wins and are averaging 72.8 points per contest and their margin of victory is 20.6 points more than their opponents.
The Dawgs will then play a non-district contest against Temple before heading to Victoria to play in the Mike Smith Classic Dec. 28-30.
Cove will then return home Tuesday, Jan. 2 to face the no. 19 ranked (TABC) Killeen Ellison Eagles in their toughest test of the season.
“I definitely saw what I wanted, especially in the last game,” head coach Billy White Jr said about where his team is at heading into district play. “They came out ready to play. We had a lot of things on the defensive end that we’ve been talking about and they got that done today.
“We held them to 23 points in the first half and that’s one of the things we’re working on. We’re going to be able to score the basketball, we’ve just got to make sure that we can defend. That’s something we’re focused on and I was really proud of them doing that today.”
