Community sings carols, brings snow to Savannah

While Copperas Cove did not see the snowfall that other areas of Texas did, the street in front of 16-year-old Savannah Lewis’ home on Scott Drive was filled with snow.
Lewis, in the very last stage of her battle with Ewing’s sarcoma, summoned enough strength to be wheeled outside to bask in the artificial snow blown from a machine and enjoy the light show courtesy of Magic Display Pyrotechnics of Kempner.
She was able to stand long enough to lean on her father in the snowfall prior to the lighting of candles and singing of carols.
Dozens of supporters whose motto is #Savannahstrong, sang Christmas carols in the Lewis’ front yard while Savannah watched from her bedroom window.
Supporters included family, friends, fellow classmates, and even strangers, as well as members of the Copperas Cove High School choir.
According to Julie Moser, who has served as a liaison for David Lewis, Savannah’s father, the teen is sleeping nearly 20 hours per day and when she does awaken, it is not for long. But Friday night, she felt well enough and insisted she wanted to be outside to enjoy the snow.
The week after Thanksgiving, Lewis returned home under the care of hospice, with her family and friends rallying around her. Not quite two weeks ago, volunteers gathered to decorate the outside of the Lewis home for Christmas, and last weekend, hundreds of Jeep owners rallied to stage a Jeep parade along Business 190, down Avenue D and into the House Creek North neighborhood.
Her group of supporters circles the globe, as seen in the online group called #SavannahStrong, at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1778386645754208, where updates about Savannah are provided at intervals.
