School board to hold July meeting

The Copperas Cove Independent School District board of trustees is holding its monthly meeting at 6:30 this evening at the CCISD administration board room, located at 703 W. Ave. D.
The meeting starts with recognitions, to include bus driver Willie Simeon, who is retiring with 24 years of service with CCISD; CCHS students Christopher Armstrong, Noah Luna and Emma Bodisch for excelling at National History Day; teacher Catherine Sharbeno, who is being recognized by the Texas State Historical Association recognition for outstanding achievement in the Texas History Day Program; and recognition of Girl Scout Troop #6120 and the Five Hills Scholarship Program for the
Little Free Libraries project.
CCISD administration is presenting a list of nine bids received for the future district transportation facility, yet to be constructed. It is recommending awarding the bid to Mitchell Construction at a cost of $4,441,000, which includes a contingency of $212,000.
The district has several budgeted purchases which each exceed $25,000 up for approval this evening, one of which totals $147,450 from the general operating fund and $30,000 from federal grant Title III funds. This includes funding Edgenuity, a credit recovery and student self-accelerated credit program, for $58,650; Imagine Learning, an English as a Second Language curriculum and program, $35,250; and iReady, a universal screener, for $86,550.
Also up for approval are an agreement with Stetson & Associates for professional development in the amount of $60,000; a contract with Margo Pace for physical therapy services in the amount of $70,000; the purchase of 30 replacement desktop computers for the high school’s CTE Lab, totaling $36,436.50; and the purchase of 180 HP Pro 11 G3 Netbooks for assessment and testing at both junior high campuses, along with Martin Walker and Clements/Parsons Elementary schools, totaling $38,637.
CCISD administration is also presenting a contract with Education Services Center XII in Waco, which annually provides professional development and other services to CCISD. This year’s proposed contract is $113,472.21, paid for with combination of budgeted funds and Title 1 Part C Migrant funds.
The board will also take action on a number of items, some of which are presented annually by CCISD administration, to include:
An agreement with the City of Copperas Cove for two full-time police officers at CCHS, costing $139,131 from budgeted funds.
An agreement with Central Texas College for dual-credit courses in the areas of automotive technology, welding, emergency medical technician, college prep/math and English language arts.
An agreement with Temple College for articulated credit.
CCISD credit by exam list of tests for both acceleration and/or credit recovery purposes and the kindergarten acceleration procedures.
Exempting certain advanced courses from the University Interscholastic League (UIL) “no pass, no play” provision.
Appointing a military property custodian for JROTC.
Additionally, the board will receive report items from administration, to include resignations, monthly and quarterly financial reports, district’s annual fundraising report, and the summer school report.
