The 15+ acres of city-owned property the Cove Saddle Club has leased for more than two decades is up for discussion and action again for a possible sale at tonight’s Copperas Cove city council meeting.
During the March 22 meeting, the council went into an executive session to discuss several offers which had been received by the appointed broker for the property. Those amounts weren’t disclosed at that time, but one interested buyer, Anton Pospisil, made a pitch in person to the council to accept his offer. Pospisil stated at that time he intends to allow the Saddle Club to use the property in the future as well as let the city have access to another section of the property used for storage. The council also has an executive session on the agenda for tonight’s meeting for the same topic.
In addition to approval of past meeting minutes, the consent agenda contains a list of purchases for the city’s new IT building located at 508 S. 2nd St. Those purchases are for audio/visual hardware, security cameras and system, an emergency generator, along with network cables and installation.
Another purchase on the consent agenda is emergency repairs to City Park pool, which for no more than $15,300, which also includes a contingency for the repair work.
Among the action items on the agenda are the appointment of two library board members; the purchase of a side loader refuse truck and a brush grapple truck for the Solid Waste Department, for a total of $408,378 paid for with certificate of obligation funding from 2015 and 2016; a professional services agreement with LAN Engineering for phase 2 of the Wastewater Management Plan; and the approval of an amendment to the city’s fee schedule for farmer’s market activities.
For report items at the meeting, the council will receive March 2017 reports regarding the Economic Development Corporation prospect activity from interim EDC director Andrea Gardner as well as the EDC’s business retention summary from director of business retention, Diane Drussell.
The council will also receive the annual report of Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful from KCCB’s executive director, Silvia Rhoads.
During the 5 p.m. city council workshop, employee service recognitions will take place. The workshop agenda item concerns eight-liner and “sweepstakes” gaming locations within the City of Copperas Cove.
The workshop and meeting will take place at the Economic Development Corporation building, located at 210 S. 1st St. A time of citizens’ forum will be held at the beginning of the regular meeting.
