Mildred Faye Smart Crooks
On March 6, 2017, Faye passed from her earthly, non-hearing life to her eternal life where, as a friend said, she would be able to hear a whisper.
She was born October 22, 1928, in Izoro, Lampasas County, Texas, to Sidney Dora Belle Bruster Smart and John Calhoun Smart. Faye was predeceased by her parents; brothers Alvin, Harold, and Wayne; sisters Eris Mangrem, infant Lois Smart, Jean Gammons, and Sue Smart.
Cherishing the good memories of Faye are her daughters, Sandra Cox and Kathy Stephens, and her sole surviving brother Clyde Smart, and his wife, Frieda. She also leaves behind her beloved granddaughters, Megan Taylor and Brandy Gould, and greatgrandchildren Bonita Buffington, Liam Taylor, and Mabel Taylor. Other loved ones left behind are her son-in-law, Wallace Cox, and grandson-in-law, Grant Taylor, and many, dear nieces, nephews and their spouses and children.
Faye lived for several years in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, where she worked for Ray Crooks Jeweler, Stuart Insurance Agency, Hot Springs National Bank, and Carrie Tingley Hospital. She then lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Dallas, Texas, before moving back to the family farm in Copperas Cove, Texas, when she lived with her wonderful hearing dog, Simon. Kathy moved to The Farm to care for Faye until her death.
Cremation has taken place and no services are planned.
Gifts in her memory should be made to Dogs for the Deaf, 10175 Wheeler Road, Central Point, OR 97505; website DogsfortheDeaft.org; or by calling 800-99-3647.
