Pink Warrior Angels (PWA) is now accepting registrations from local businesses for the October initiative to “Paint the Town Pink” to promote awareness of the impact of breast cancer.

The cost to participate is $20 and all proceeds will go directly to PWA, said Julie Moser, one of the group’s co-founders. Business owners will have the chance to compete for the best decorated display on the front of their business.

Registration is ongoing now through September 30, with decorating to kick off on October 1. Judging starts Oct. 17, when judges will begin visiting each participating business to see their handiwork.

The winner will be announced on October 21 and receive a PWA bag full of goodies and be awarded the benefits of a PWA silver sponsorship level. The winning business will have a banner on display and receive full exposure each event PWA holds and company coupons will be included in every swag bag for every event. The company will also receive a $500 sponsorship credit which will go toward 30 chemo care kits for cancer patients.

A survivor of breast cancer diagnosed in 2013, Moser founded Pink Warrior Angels in July 2015 along with fellow breast cancer survivor Jen Reynolds.

Pink Warrior Angels pairs cancer patients with volunteers called “Angels” who are cancer survivors themselves, as a support connection during a patient’s treatment. Angels give support by sending cards, along with calling and texting the “Warrior” battling cancer.

“We are extremely proud of what we have accomplished in the last year since establishing ourselves as a 501c3,” Moser said. “What we do, we feel, is extremely unique and much needed in the breast cancer community. A cancer diagnosis can turn a woman’s world upside down.”

PWA also helps out breast cancer patients financially.

“In addition to our Angel/Warrior program, we also provide financial assistance to those needing this type of help. Our financial assistance has no limits with regards to what we help with,” Moser said. “We’ve helped with anything ranging from helping families with funeral expenses to helping with groceries, gas, and medical bills. Our goal is to lessen the burden of their cancer diagnosis as much as we possibly can.”
