The Copperas Cove Bass Club conducted its annual Top 8 Three-Person Golf Scramble fundraiser last Saturday at the Hills of Cove Golf Course to raise funds for sending the club’s Top 8 fishermen to the Texas Association of Bass Clubs (TABC) State Championship Bass Tournament being held 24-25 of September at Lake Livingston in Onalaska, Texas.
While the weather impeded a lot of golfers from coming out, those that did had a great scramble and fortunately the rain held off until all golfers finished their round and were safely back into the clubhouse. Each team consisted of three people, and each team started at a different hole to expedite the round. There were prizes awarded for the teams with the two lowest scores and for those that got closest to the pins on three different holes on the course.
Lunch was provided to all teams as part of their entry fees by the Er Thang Cajun restaurant located in the clubhouse.
The 1st place team this year consisted of Jeff Dewald, Dustin Dewald, and Rod Carlton shot a round scoring a 58.
The 2nd Place team consisted of Buck Wilkins, Craig Foster, and Johnny Hull hit a round scoring a 62.
The closest to the pin winners were: Jeff Dewald (hole 10), Dustin Dewald (12) and Tenny Bishop (17).
Buck Wilkins won the Ledger Furniture donated golf plaque “Born to Golf/Forced to Work.”
“Thanks to all the teams that braved the weather to come out and support the club’s Top 8 fishermen,” said Jack Johnson, club secretary.
“This year’s Copperas Cove Bass Club’s Top 8 team is hoping to bring the TABC trophy back to Cove this year, and it would not have been possible without all the businesses unwavering support.
This year’s Copperas Cove Top 8 team members are team captain Stephen Mallett, and Johnny Hull; Ron Hitz and John Shatto; Rick Counter and Jack Johnson; and Bob Bingle and Nolan Estell.
The Cove Bass Club had numerous items that were donated to the club to be raffled from many of the local businesses that supported the club’s efforts. 27 different businesses supported this event.
“The Copperas Cove Bass Club would like to express our sincere appreciations to all of our sponsors.,” said Johnson. “We would also like to give a big thank to the Hills of Cove Golf Course and, specifically to Davis Dewald, for allowing the club to conduct this annual event.”
