Another day, another title for two Cove golfers.

Recent Cove graduate Tyler Morrison continues to pile up wins on the Junior Golf summer tour with the latest win coming Monday at the Southern Texas PGA Junior Tour event at the Onion Creek Golf Club in Austin.

Morrison posted a near perfect first nine holes to take a three-stroke lead on the field with just one bogey and eight pars through nine. Second-place finisher Arrianna Rocha of Liberty Hill made a charge on the back nine but only bested Morrison by one as the two put up the top two scores of the back nine to hold on to the 1-2 finish.

Cove Junior High’s Elle Fox had some state pride on the line as she and her team of Ryann Honea, Brooke Morales and Gabriella Tomanka defended their home state of Texas in the third annual Texas/Mexico Cup that pits some of the top junior players of Texas against their counterparts in Mexico in a match-play event held June 23 through June 26 at the Omni Barton Creek Resort and Spa in Austin.

Fox and Honea teamed up for the day one alternate shot competition but fell to the Mexico team of Estibaly Garcia and Camila Madariaga 6&4 as Mexico took a 16.0 to 10.0 lead after day one.

Texas stormed back on day two in the best ball portion of the tournament where doubles partners shoot from the best shot with a 17.0 to 9.0 advantage. Fox and Honea finished their match all squared.

Texas just needed to at least tie on day three in the singles portion to assure a third-consecutive victory and Fox did her part with a 2up win over Mexico’s Daniela Burgos to help the Texas team to a 27.5 to 24.5 final day and a 54.5 50 49.5 overall victory.

Cove Junior High’s Madelyn Miller also had a good day on Monday as she followed up her first-ever win with a second-place finish in the Beltway Junior Golf Tour event Monday at the Stonetree Golf Course in Killeen. Miller shot a personal best 94 to earn the second-place finish after a playoff in the girls’ platinum division.

Cove graduate Bryce Anderson also had a good showing in the tournament with a 4th-place finish where he was just one stroke behind winner Jacob Hughes (77) after tying at 78 with Hank Payne and Ty Sanderford of Belton in the boys’ gold division.

Cove’s Caden McAnally (T-6th, 82) and Dustin Dean (12th, 89) also competed in the boy’s gold division while E.J. McAdams (4th, 121) competed in the boys’ silver division and Abigail Baker (4th, 132) played in the girls’ platinum division.

The Cove golfers will next see action Wednesday in the Beltway tour stop at the Wildflower Country Club in Temple.

Fox is currently competing in the USGA Women’s Amateur Qualifier at the Desert Forest Golf Club in Carefree, AZ. Fox will then travel to California to make her return to the IMG Worlds at the famed Torrey Pines on July 12-14 and will stay in California for the America Junior Golf Association Qualifier in Temecula, CA on July 18 before returning to Texas for the Texas State Championships in Houston on July 25-26.
